A surprise trip to Barcelona with her boyfriend, Jake, seems like the perfect antidote to Grace Sawyer's current woes. The city is dazzling and unpredictable, but the biggest surprise for Grace is discovering who arranged and paid for the vacation.

Carrie Ann wasn't just Grace's foster sister. Clever, pretty, and mercurial, she was her best friend—until everything went terribly wrong. Now, as she flees an abusive marriage, Carrie Ann has turned to the one person she hopes will come through for her. Despite her initial misgivings, Grace wants to help. But then Carrie Ann and Jake both go missing. Stunned and confused, Grace begins to realize how much of herself she's kept from Jake—and how much of Carrie Ann she never understood. Soon Grace is baited into following a trail of scant clues across Spain, determined to find the truth, even if she must revisit her troubled past to do it.

Mary Carter's intriguing novel delves into the complexities of childhood bonds, the corrosive weight of guilt and blame, and all the ways we try—and often fail—to truly know the ones we love.

My Review: Grace Sawyer, a singer, is going through a hard time. With a bad review for her music, a mother who is slowly passing away and only remembers who Grace is half the time, and a father who stays by her mother's side, Grace's bright spot is her boyfriend, Jake.

Jake, a veterinarian wins a trip to Barcelona shortly before Grace's thirtieth birthday. Whisking Grace away from the things she can't change, the couple finds themselves in one of the most romantic cities in the world.

Carrie Ann, an ex foster child of Grace's parents and Grace's SBC (sister by choice) devises a scheme to get Grace back in to her life. Leading Grace through a game of cat and mouse, Carrie Ann's own plan comes unraveled and they are caught up in a real life plot and the only way to figure out the mystery is go back into their past.

Mary Carter's Meet Me in Barcelona is touching, intriguing, and suspenseful. A tale of family, love, and forgiveness Mary Carter blends so many themes into this book that it leaves an impact on you. Meet Me in Barcelona is a book that you can't read just once.

Grace Ann and Carrie Ann are the exact opposite. Whereas Carrie is wild, Grace is more quiet and takes things to heart. A misunderstanding tore them apart years ago but fifteen years later they have a chance to make it right. Although Carrie Ann does not go about things in the normal way and prefers to be somewhat dramatic, you can tell she truly does care about Grace and her family.

The real twist in this book is when Carrie Ann's own cat and mouse game gets turned back on her and Grace and Carrie have to work together to figure things out.

I loved Mary Carter's Meet Me in Barcelona. Taking a prominent place on my bookshelf, Meet Me in Barcelona will be one book I read over and over. I can honestly say this book deserves more than five stars.
