EXCERPT
Silencing the phone so there wouldn’t
be any more interruptions, he dropped it on the table and kicked back in the
chair to enjoy the show. “From where I’m sitting, this view is a million times
better than any sunrise or sunset from an ocean balcony.”
A grin spread across Lizbeth’s face as
she turned her head and peered over her shoulder. “I’m glad you approve.”
“Definitely approve. Work that dress
down over your hips, but don’t let it just fall to the floor. Bend over nice
and slow and push it down your legs.”
Her dark eyes hooded and she nodded
slightly as she slid her palms down her sides to bunch the fabric at her waist,
then worked it back and forth down over her hips and thighs. Slowly,
erotically, as he instructed, she bent forward at the waist and eased the
fabric to the floor. And then she stayed just like that, letting him look his
fill of her ass with a strip of red fabric from the tiny thong tucked between
her cheeks, the backs of her legs wrapped with lace-topped thigh-high
stockings, and her feet tipped forward in black fuck-me pumps.
How could it be that after taking her
more times than possible to count, he still wanted her as badly as the second
he laid eyes on her in the club?
“Crawl up onto the bed on your hands
and knees with your legs spread apart.”
As she shivered in response, he checked
the thermostat on the wall. It wasn’t cold in the room, so he assumed her
tremor was one of excitement, and a thrill shot through him at yet another
validation of her being happy to follow the orders he enjoyed giving.
They’d had enough conversation about
their future to know they both intended to fight for it, but they hadn’t
figured out the details yet. She lived at the coast. He lived in Charlotte. On
a good traffic day, they were looking at a four and a half-hour trip. His
business kept him busy and on the road far more than he liked. She ran a
business, as well. His business was established in Charlotte, and while it
seemed like a good opportunity for her to move to a large metropolis with
unlimited opportunities for an event planner, he wondered if he was selfish to
ask.
And what about the kids? He could never
leave Charlotte as long as they lived there, and he couldn’t ask them to uproot
their lives. Especially not when their mother lived there as well.
Fuck. Why did life have to always be so
damned complicated and full of twists and curves?
“Why did I think you would join me on
this bed?” Lizbeth asked, breaking into his thoughts and bringing his mind back
down from the higher realms of thinking, where plans for the future resided, to
the basic, primal thoughts that had propelled men for all of eternity.
His woman—hell yeah, he could really
get used to that—was on her hands and knees in the middle of the bed, waiting
for him to claim her, and he was all up in his head when he should be all up in
her.
Shaking off the fear and worry and
concern for the future, he pushed out of the chair and stalked toward the bed. “I’m
joining you all right.” He slapped his palm over her naked ass, causing her to
jump and gasp with surprise, then moan with pleasure as he stroked the silky
smooth globe. “Stay as you are and let me enjoy this view for a moment longer
while I grab some toys.”
REVIEW
Let me start by saying that Alannah Lynne's Heat Wave series just gets better and better with each book!
I honestly believe Matter of Time is the best one we have seen yet. There are so many new elements in this book that make it so great and fresh for the series. I've loved all the previous books and fell in love with her male leads and the relationships they fall into, but Matter of Time captured my attention from the very first page with how different it is from the rest.
Sixteen years ago Logan and Lizbeth were in a serious relationship and in love with one another. That all changed when he found out that his ex, Bobbi Jo, had had his baby. He decided to put his child first and to do that he would have to marry Bobbi Jo and in the process broke both his own and Lizbeth's hearts.
Sixteen years later and neither of them have moved on. Logan is now in process of getting divorced while Lizbeth has never had quite a serious relationship except for Kevin Mazze. Kevin and Lucas, Logan's twin, work in cahoots to bring Lizbeth and Logan back together.
Can Lizbeth and Logan finally find the happy ever after they've dreamed of together but has the years apart done too much damage to repair?
What I loved about this book - Hello, sex club! When I realized that the setting for where Logan and Lizbeth met up again was a sex club, I couldn't believe it, but I loved it! This seemed so different from the prior Heat Wave novels, but that's what I liked about it. I also liked that although it broke his heart, Logan decided to be a stand up dad and raise his daughter because he loved her. As a single mom, this kind of made me swoon. I also loved the fact that Kevin helped conspire to bring these two back together. Oh! And Logan is a twin. There is another one of him! (Does that mean Lucas will be getting his own book? I sure hope so!) Like I said there are a ton of elements blended together that just has me loving Matter of Time.
Alannah Lynne is admittedly my favorite author and with each book she writes she just shows me exactly why that is. Not only is she amazingly talented, her sense of humor is wonderful. I love the bit of humor that can be found in each of her books along with some snark and some hot, steamy scenes. The Heat Wave novels are written to be read over and over again and Matter of Time is just another book on my shelf that will be getting more than one read through.
Once again Alannah Lynne has written a five star (If I could give it more, than I would) book. Her writing never fails to put a smile on my face and I would definitely recommend this one to all.
